There comes a time in everyone’s life where they need a break from everyone they know, every freeway they drive on, and every unwanted person they run into. Why not take a break and do something for yourself? Why not…Travel! If you need a break from the bubble that you are in then planning a trip is the best way to get yourself in a new state of mind.Just like being a sloth and acting gluttonous sometimes feels epic, travelling should be something we should want to do all the time.

TOP 4 REASONS YOU SHOULD TRAVEL:

Seeing a new world can make you happier!

Changing your environment can bring a shift in one’s mentality. I know that when I was burnt out last year from exhaustion I booked a trip to the farthest place I could: Thailand. My happiness increased because of the change in my environment and the opportunity to explore my ideal vision of myself. Travel gives us the chance to get away from the routines we have and create new opportunities.

Meet new people.

Now this is refreshing! Meeting new people is amazing! Before I went to Thailand I had the same friends (love them) and same routine. During my trip, I got the chance to meet people from all around the world like Australia, Italy, Burma, Egypt, Israel, Belgium, and even L.A. & Canada. The people you meet when you travel have at least one thing in common with you: wadnerlust. Everyone has a story and it’s amazing to see how everyone wants to narrate his or her lives. Learn and laugh with these new friends and take any opportunity you have to meet new people.

Challenge yourself.

Before my trip I felt as if I was in a rut. I got comfortable in my routine and did not want to do anything new. I wanted to stay in my little bubble and do the same thing every single day. I was not at all spontaneous. Going overseas forced me to do things I was not comfortable with like talking to strangers (be careful with this), not speaking the native language, not looking pretty and perfect all the time, etc. Going to another country challenged me to see the “darker” side of myself. The “light” side of myself was my routine, being in my own world and people-pleasing. The newfound “dark” side was being spontaneous, trying new foods, taking on new adventures, and being assertive.

Learn about new cultures & traditions.

It is literally a whole new world when you step out of your comfort zone. Why wouldn’t anyone want to learn about new culture and traditions? Or even go see those things in person after studying about it during your undergrad? Whether you are young or old make the time to see the world because if you don’t you will regret it.Now all of this does not mean you have to book the first $2,000 plane ticket to the South of France. There are so many places to see even when you are on a budget. I highly recommend traveling to Thailand if you have not been there before. Make sure to go during the high season. The most expensive thing I bought was the plane ticket and everything else was extremely cheap. Other amazing travel destinations are: Rome, the Bahamas, Punta Cana, Puerto Viejo, Mexico, New York City, Miami, New Orleans, & Istanbul. Another great way of traveling is going with a tour! (contiki.com is fabulous!) or find a humanity trip and help teach English to young children or even help save endangered wildlife (http://www.habitat.org/gv)! Plan your trip wisely and safely. Also, make sure you are going with someone you can get along with for long periods of time – this can make or break your trip. Have fun and go out there and start living your life!!!
